چکیده

Deltaic wetlands are among the most biodiverse systems on earth, provide important ecosystem services, and are natural buffers against violent storms and hurricanes. Marine processes change the planar configuration and internal stratigraphy of deltaic wetlands, and understanding their contribution to wetlands development and deterioration processes is a key issue for society. In this thesis, field data and numerical models are used to investigate the effect of marine processes on the formation and evolution of deltaic wetlands. The first part of this work focuses on the effect of micro and meso tides on the hydrodynamics, morphodynamics, and stratigraphy of deltaic distributaries. Data from instruments deployed in Apalachicola Bay (FL) were used to investigate the hydrodynamics of river mouths. Investigating the hydrodynamics is the first step for a deeper understanding of sediment transport processes, and possible implications for the morphological evolution of these depositional environments. The effect of micro and meso tides on the morphology and stratigraphy of mouth bars is then explored by using numerical and analytical tools. Mouth bars are the building units of river deltas and

Providing Protection Solutions of Anzali Wetlands With the Modern Watershed Approach

The purpose of the modern watershed study is to use a regional pilot to select an erosion sub-basin and restore it to preserve the downstream wetland. In this research, Alanza watershed, located in the upstream reaches of Anzali wetland, has been selected as a sub-watershed (pilot) with the aim of investigating the effect of mechanical, biological and biomechanical operations on modern watershe...

Examination of Toxic Metals (mercury) in Coot (Fulica atra) and Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo) Collected in Anzali and Gomishan Wetlands, Iran

Background: Present study was carried out in north of Iran to investigate the concentration of mercury (Hg) as one of the most toxic metals in tissues of two species of birds. Methods: In this study, 15 birds from coot (Fulica atra) and 18 birds from cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo) were hunted in Anzali and Gomishan wetlands. Data-analyses carried out using SPSS software version 17 licenced...

Modelling of the kaolin deposits and reserve classification challenges of Charentes Basin, France

The kaolinitic clays have been exploited for more than a hundred years, in the western part of the Charentes Basin, France, and belong to a paleo-deltaic network. The recent deposits are relatively richer in alumina in comparison with the older ones. The genesis of the kaolin deposits of the Charentes Basin follows simple geological rules, but their detailed geometry has a great complexity, rei...

Paleoenvironmental Reconstruction of Miocene Surma Succession in the Well Rashidpur # 04 of Bengal Basin Using Log Facies Interpretation

Detailed log facies studies of Miocene succession in the well Rashidpur-04, Rashidpur structure, Surma Basin were carried out by integrating wireline log and limited core sample data in order to reconstruct the paleoenvironments of deposition. Based on the analysis of the log motifs, grain size, sand/shale ratio and major change in gamma ray log motifs, two major depositional sequences were ide...

Applying Process-Based Models for Subsurface Flow Treatment Wetlands: Recent Developments and Challenges

To date, only few process-based models for subsurface flow treatment wetlands have been developed. For modelling a treatment wetland, these models have to comprise a number of sub-models to describe water flow, pollutant transport, pollutant transformation and degradation, effects of wetland plants, and transport and deposition of suspended particulate matter. The two most advanced models are t...
